Chantal's View of the Last Day of the Season
I thought Saturday would never arrive. Then the day came. FC United vs BPA. Little did I know what was in store for us.

Saturday came. Time to go to FC! One of the most important games in the club's history had arrived. The ballboys/girls had been told to arrive at
Gigg Lane for about 2.15pm. None of us had been told why we had to go early. Most of the ballboys and girls arrived before or around the time asked. At about half past two, we went out on to the pitch. Everybody was wondering why we were going out so early. We got on to the pitch. We looked at the scoreboard. It was thanking all the junior volunteers for our help. It then said that we would receive a cap for all of our efforts. Margy was standing there with a bag of bright yellow caps. We stood in a line and he handed us one each at the same time as shaking our hands. It was a privilege to receive a cap from a person with such a high up role in FC. They said 'FC JUNIOR VOLUNTEER' on them as well as the club badge in the middle. As soon as we got them we put them on and then we had a photo taken with the players. The time seemed to pass so quickly, it must have been five minutes but it felt more like one minute! When we got back into the room we meet in, there was a cup cake for each of us. They had cream in the middle and were very tasty! Then it was time to go out to watch the match. Nerves mixed with excitement rushed through me. Kick off. Minutes passed and no goals. Some good chances by FC but no luck. 7 mins in. Adam Tong had a shot. He gets it in! 1-0 to FC. The crowd were going crazy! BPA players and fans didn't look too thrilled. After that FC had some more good chances. None making it to the back of the net though. Half time came, still 1-0. The BPA fans were cheering quite loudly for an away team. Before I knew it, the second half had begun. FC fans were making a lot of noise. Cheering on their team. Almost all of the MRE was full with supporters. A fantastic crowd. The official attendance figure was 3718. The last 10 mins had come. If FC could just keep them off for a tiny bit longer then we would have made the play offs. Then disaster struck. BPA had scored 84 mins in. This was not good. Kendal were drawing 2-2 at this point. If the scores would have stayed like this then FC would have made play off places. Minutes passed. No goals. 4 mins injury time. FC were getting many chances. Corners were coming from anywhere. Even Sam Ashton was in the box. The full time whistle was blown. 1-1. Would it be good enough? No, Kendal had got a last minute winner. FC had not made play off places. The fans and players were all gutted. Margy gave a speech over the tannoy. He said that next season we would come back fighting. We would be promoted as champions next year. Will it happen? FC had put on a fantastic performance all season. However much we deserved play off places, they just weren't to be. Next year we will come back fighting. Champions?

Next Season

FC United of Manchester

Junior Supporters

We are taking names now for junior membership for next season. Activities planned so far are going to be the best EVER. Ideas that YOU have suggested are starting to be put into place. One thing you wanted was organised football training, and from next season this WILL take place before each home game and by qualified trainers. Everyone will be made welcome so let's have some fun!

Some of your other suggestions that we are looking at are:

Boxing/boxercise training, first aid courses, sports & rock & river camps, more

tenpin bowling days, organised FC 'away' days with your group meeting up with the away team's junior supporters for activities, and the possibility of a 'Euro' away trip...yes, it was discussed and if we get enough members it can happen.

So please get in touch now. At the next couple of home games go to the juniors'

stall and fill in a membership form for next season, or use the contacts below.

If you didn't see it you can catch up on the BBC i-player here  http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00htkkn/Inside_Out_North_West_18_02_2009/ The part of the programme you need to watch starts at 19.17 minutes in.

Joshua's Rise to Fame
Josh Broadbent, one of our juniors and a regular ballboy for FCUM has been invited for trials at Liverpool FC Academy. Josh, who plays in goal for New Mills Juniors was spotted by a Liverpool FC Scout during this weekends match. Watch out Sam Ashton! And good luck in the trials Josh.

Martin's account of the day FC Juniors went MAD
Following the play some of the juniors were involved in at "Course you can Malcolm's" just before Christmas, Rob, the MAD group leader invited Josh, Alex, Danny and myself to take part in two fight scenes for a play called "Angels with Manky Faces." The play is based on the book "Gangs of Manchester," by Andrew Davies.
On 29th January we all set off for Morecambe to meet a fight co-ordinator, also called Martin, for some training. Martin has co-ordinated fight scenes on some of the James Bond films, and also The Matrix. The training was brilliant!
On Sunday 1st February we arrived at Angel meadow in Manchester for filming. There was a film crew from the BBC's Inside Out programme, who were also filming us.
It snowed on and off all day, but despite the cold it was brilliant fun. I got hit over the head by a props bottle(It didn't hurt, it tickled, but I don't think I'll try it with a real bottle!)
We made lots of friends and met some of the actors and actresses from the play, and also Andy Davies, the author of the book.
So if you can, go and see the show. If it looks as good on the stage as it did on the day we were filming, you'll all enjoy it!

FC Juniors go MAD

FC Juniors are once again teaming up with MAD (Moston Action Drama). MAD is planning a production of "Angels with Manky Faces." The production is based on Andrew Davies book "Gangs of Manchester," and is set in Ancoats in 1894. The four FC Juniors are pictured above. Alex, Danny, Josh & Martin will be involved in a film session, to be shown during the stage production, which involves two rival gangs.  A BBC Inside Out crew will also be filming the boy’s scene as part of a documentary on the book and its author, to be shown on TV at a later date. We'll let you know when that will be. In preparation for their roles, the boys have been coached by a fight co-coordinator who has worked on films such as James Bond and the Matrix. The showing of "Angels with Manky Faces" will be at the following venues;
