March 19th Can't get a phone signal here in Nepal but everything is soooo good. Off doing a small 2 day trek tomorrow which is so unlike me innit?? specially after white water rafting last week in Rishikesh :-) update again on Monday when I get back here in Pokhara.
March 18th Arrived at the Nepal border last night and today travelled to Pokhara. Can't believe how peaceful it is after months of the Indian mayhem. Should be moving to Kathmandu in 3 or 4 days.
March 17th Been absorbing this amazing place for 4 days now and time to leave in the morning. Heading up into Nepal and the problem isn't going to be Maoist rebels on the way but the Indian immigration letting me back in to India for my onward journey... let's see eh? :-)
March 14th Arrived in Varanasi yesterday afternoon and this certainly is a different kind of place. I sat at the burning ghat last night and just watched the complete ceremony of a cremation amongst around 15 others. Hard to describe.
March 12th Rishikesh has been so good and yesterday was very special as witnessed close up the initiation of loads of Sadus as they had their locks chopped off. Thanks to Lou I was privilleged to see things from the living area of the Sadus to the head shaves on the Ganges. Soooo soooo good.
March 9th Oh, it's so nice and warm here in Rishikesh after all that time in the cold of dem dare hills... be nice for a bit until I head north again towards Nepal and Darjeeling... brrrrrrr....
March 7th Arrived in Rishikesh at 7am this morning and has just seen the sunset over the holy Ganges for the first time. Going having a trip to Haridwar tomorrow I think. Exploring.
March 5th In Shimla and catching the mountain 'toy' train tomorrow towards Chandigarh and Haridwar... should be interesting :-)
March 2nd Feel so lucky to be up in the snowy mountains of Manali in the sunshine. If Shimla is half as good I'm in for another treat.
February 28th Have spent this morning,the indian holiday of holi in the presence of his holiness the dalai lama as he gave his teachings... this follows catching him on camera yesterday arriving home from his meeting with obama in washington.... a bit special :-)
February 22nd having a great relaxing time with the rest of the 'golden girls' up in McCleod Ganj where the Dalai Lama lives... I am just hoping to see him during the coming week sometime.
February 16th Back after a couple of weeks in Rajasthan and one more full day in Delhi and it's back off tramping it around northern India. Amritsar first then over to have a brew and a custard cream with the Dalai Lama.. yeah, as if he'd share his biccies with me :-)
February 10th Off to Jaipur tomorrow
February 7th Since stopping in Delhi last week for 3 nights, I've been mostly eating up Rajasthan... Bikaner (for the rat temple.. real rats running over yer feet), Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and now in Udaipur for a couple of nights. Missing live football but not the wind, rain and snow that goes with it :-)
January 28th only 2 full days left in goa now and i'm off oop norf... sounds like nepal might now not be possible cos they are stopping re-entry into india unless you've been gone at least 60 days... shame but i ain''t wanting to be in the freezing cold for that long :-)
January 25th I'm halfway through the trip now and so far so good... christian and kitty left for home this morning
January 23rd Only 8 more days left in Goa now before I set off to north India for a couple of months... I need to get my planning together for this next bit instead of enjoying myself every day here :-)
January 14th Been good seeing friends Marc, David and Sidsel I met in Kerala here in Goa. They are on their merry way now and I have until 31st of January here just doing what I do best.... nowt :-) Christian and Kitty look to be having fun as well and getting used to being in India. Oh it's so hard being here.... NOT ;-)
January 7th Last night down in Kerala, south India tonight... tomorrow it's a 17 hour train journey to Goa to see my pals and get the welcoming committee ready for Christian and Kitty's arrival on Sunday.
January 4th was feeling so sorry for all you penguins back home, I have now moved high up to the hill station of Ooty in the Western Ghats... and it's freezing at night here. I did have a lovely sleep under the biggest Douvet ever made last night though :-)
January 1st I n Kochi for a couple of days now before moving high up into the hill station of Ooty.. then a week today it's the train back to my pad in Goa. Good times are all around. Happy new year to everyone and have a great 2010
December 26thOff on the move again in the morning to cruise along the backwaters of Kerala from Kolam to Alleypey. I wonder If they' ll have the internet on board :-)
December 24th I'm having a white Christmas as well you good people... white sand, white surf with lots of sunshine thrown in....Not convinced Kerala is better than Goa... but it's better than Bury that's for sure! :-)
December 21st Made it today to the southern most tip of India, Kanyakumari. From here you can see the sun rise on the bay of bengal and set in the arabian sea.
December 14th A tropical storm is blowing in from Sri Lanka to south India and It's been raining on my chapatis a bit. Slight drizzle and grey skies for the past couple of days... I'm down at a place called Thanjavur now and will make Madurai in the next couple of days.. hopefully it will brighten up again. On schedule and looking forward to the beaches of Kerala for new year :-)orward to the beaches of kerala for new year :-)
December 6th Arrived in Chennai a couple of hours late and got to the hotel at about 10am. done the touristy things here today... temples and stuff so I think another day on the beach coming up tomorrow :-) 2nd largest beach in the world here apparently.
December 4th Well I've been here in Bhopal for 3 days and leave in the morning for another 27 hour train journey to Chennai (Madras). My first time on a puter since leaving Goa. It has been different to what I've been used to so far in India. Freezing cold at night the least of these :-) Hopefully I'll get more net access from now on...
November 30th The journey to Bhopal starts in 6 hours... at 3am November 28thOnly 2 days left in Goa then off on the more serious stuff... I've enjoyed my stay here but I am so ready to get moving elsewhere
November 22nd Love zipping around on 2 wheels instead of 4 in the heat... not looking forward to being cooped up for 27 hours on a train in 9 days though!
November 15thJ ust like Manchester here... you go out and you have to ride your bike back through the tail end of a cyclone.. like being in a warm power shower... luverly and warm :-)
November 10th All packed and almost ready to go first thing in the morning to lovely India. |
